The Prima Donnettes (Pre-Production)
Maria really enjoys these jobs as she gets to see the sets and sneak a preview of the action and fun before the show even debuts! She usually does not use a flash as the studio and stage lighting is wonderful and vibrant. The actors are may or may not be dressed in the actual costumes that they will wear for the live performance. With the help of the director and Audra Lang from FST, the cast acts out a specific list of scenes or poses. As a fan of the entertainment arts, she loves to interact with the actors as they portray specific scenes in the pre-production shoot. For the post-production, she sometimes gets to see the actual performance. Either way, she begins shooting after the audience has left and the actors have taken a break. Interestingly, the post-production happens in reverse of the actual order of acts to make costume changes easier.
The Prima Donnettes
Overview Beginning in the 50s, female singing groups such as The Shirelles, The Vandelless, and The Dixie Cups began to break onto the popular airwaves. By the 60s and 70s female solo artists such as Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield and Diana Ross had brought women to the forefront of the American stage. From the era of hula hoops and drive-ins to the fight for equal rights these women provided the soundtrack for the hopes and dreams of women everywhere. Featuring songs such as: “Mama Said,” “One Fine Day” and “Natural Woman.”
